L'Atavique Extra Brut
Mouzon-Leroux, Champagne Grand Cru
Base 2021 (with reserve wine from 2020 & 2019)
At Mouzon-Leroux in Verzy, Champagne is not just a technique, it is a living expression of heritage, terroir and time. “L'Atavique” means something like the innate, the original and the bottle expresses just that: a wine rooted in the knowledge of generations and nature's own rhythm.
The 2021 vintage is composed of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay from our own Grand Cru vineyards in Verzy. We work biodynamically, and biodiversity is a key word: chickens and sheep graze in the vineyards, trees are planted between the rows, and everything is done to strengthen the life of the soil.
After harvest, the wine is fermented spontaneously with natural yeast. 75% of the must is matured in used oak barrels, the rest in steel tanks. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle with 36 months of aging on the lees, and the wine rests for a further 6 months after disgorging.
Dosage: 1.5 g/l – Extra Brut, a discreet rounding that supports the wine's structure without obscuring the chalky elasticity.
The nose opens with citrus, green apples and white flowers, followed by toasted almonds, light brioche notes and a salty minerality. The palate is intense and clean, with creamy mousse, precise acidity and a long, focused finish.
L'Atavique is Champagne with character and clarity. A place-specific expression that feels both naked and generous at the same time.

L'Atavique Extra Brut
Mouzon-Leroux, Champagne Grand Cru
Base 2021 (with reserve wines from 2020 & 2019)
At Mouzon-Leroux in Verzy, Champagne is not just a craft – it's a transmission of place, heritage, and time. "L'Atavique" translates roughly to "inherited" or "instinctive" - and that's exactly what this wine embodies: a bottle rooted in generations of know-how and a deep connection to nature.
The 2021 edition blends 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay from estate-owned Grand Cru vineyards in Verzy. The domaine is farmed biodynamically with a strong focus on biodiversity – chickens and sheep roam the rows, trees are planted among the vines, and every decision is made to support living soils.
Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts. 75% of the wine is matured in old oak barrels, the rest in stainless steel. After secondary fermentation in bottle, it spends 36 months on the lees, followed by 6 months of bottle aging post-disgorgement.
Dosage: 1.5 g/l – Extra Brut, offering a subtle roundness while preserving the wine's mineral clarity and tensile core.
The nose reveals citrus, green apple, and white flowers, with deeper layers of roasted almond, light brioche, and chalky undertones. The palate is vivid and dry, with a creamy mousse, sharp acidity, and a long, saline finish.
L'Atavique is Champagne with presence and purity – a place-driven wine that feels both stripped back and complete.
